PSHE/RSE
PSHE and RSE
Intent
Here at Cooper Perry Primary School we intend to help the children embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life by helping the pupils develop knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy. Pupils will also put this knowledge into practice as they develop the capacity to make sound decisions when facing risks, challenges and complex contexts. Everyone faces difficult situations in their lives. This subject can support young people to develop resilience, to know how and when to ask for help, and to know where to access support.
RSE is about understanding the importance of family life, stable and loving relationships and respect for others.
Implementation
Teachers will teach PSHE and RSE as a weekly lesson but the curriculum is also closely linked with other subjects such as Science and it is also embedded in the day to day life of the school. Teachers will follow the Entrust PSHE scheme of work (see document below) and will also use ‘No Outsiders’ scheme to implement RSE into the lessons. ‘No Outsiders’ addresses the issues of inclusion and covers topics which are protected by the 2010 Equality Act, including religion or belief system, race, gender reassignment and sex, not sexual orientation. Age appropriate books are used to illustrate key concepts. Assemblies will also embed the lessons taught.
Impact
By the end of their time at Cooper Perry Primary school the majority of pupils will achieve age related expectations across the PSHE/RSE curriculum. The children will demonstrate positive and healthy relationships with their peers both now and in the future. They will understand the physical aspects involved in RSE at an age appropriate level. The children will have respect for others and for themselves and have a positive body image.
