FRENCH Overview

The intention of our languages curriculum is to develop an interest in learning French in an enjoyable and stimulating manner to trigger children’s curiosity about language. We strive to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning.

Intent

At Cooper Perry we understand that learning a foreign language opens doors and allows children to recognise the wider world and cultures around them.  We believe at Cooper Perry a high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It should also provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in the original language. Language teaching should provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries.

Implementation

The language of French is taught as a discreet subject using the ‘Twinkl’ scheme from Years 3 to 6 alongside personalisation from teachers to facilitate an exciting and engaging curriculum.

Impact

All children at Cooper Perry receive a broad and balanced curriculum regardless of year group, race, gender or ability. Every child accesses all subjects on offer at our school. Teachers plan all subjects with clear progression of skills and knowledge that we have devised as part of our curriculum offer to ensure that all children access it at an age-appropriate level.

Children are learning to work both independently and as part of a group, ensuring skills of resilience and teamwork are promoted in this subject. Children are enthused and engaged in the wide variety of activities they learn French through different subjects.
