Our collaborative WW1 display with year 4 showing off our writing and DT work

Families thank you so much for all of your effort and creativity - the WW1 projects are absolutely INCREDIBLE!

As some of you maybe have noticed, we have a new face in year 5. Miss Nicholas is a Trainee teacher and will be with us until February. Miss Nicholas will be leading a range of lessons with the support and guidance of Miss Fletcher.

Hello families

Welcome back to school after such a lovely, long summer break. I hope you all had a fun filled summer and are excited and eager for the year ahead. I am extremely happy to be working with both you and your children.

Our classroom is prepped and ready to go and our WWI topic has truly taken over. Throughout the term, we will use our history topic to enhance and inspire our learning in other areas such as writing, art and design and technology. In science, we will be exploring a range of materials and their properties; we will put our scientific enquiry skills to the test in a range of innovative investigations. Our class text is War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, each day the children will take part in a carousel of guided reading tasks centered around our class book.

This year Mrs Georgiou will teach the children between 10:30 and 12:30 every Thursday. During this time, Mrs Georgiou will teach RE, music and MFL. Sports Plus coaches will lead PE sessions on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon. In addition to this, year 5 will participate in a PE session on a Friday morning, which will be led by Stafford College. Please could you ensure that PE kits are in school for the entire school week.

Also, please could children have their reading book, homework diary and pencil case in school everyday. Over the next few days, each child will complete an accelerated reader task, which will determine their book level for this year. I would be extremely appreciative of your support and encouragement of reading at home.

New spelling words will be glued into the children’s homework diary on a Friday, and they will be tested on the following Friday. There will be 10 spellings to learn each week, these will be taken from the National Curriculum age related spellings, the common exception words and/or in relation to the spelling rules we are learning in class.

Look out for weekly homework on the newsletter beginning next week. Weekly homework will include spellings, maths homework as well as any occasional topic related homework.

Finally, all children are welcome to have a water bottle in the classroom, which can be re-filled at any time from a water cooler in the shared area.

My door is always open, and I am always available for a chat. If you have any questions, queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me; my email address is:

Kind Regards
