Religious Education at Cooper Perry
At Cooper Perry Primary School, Religious Education (R.E) helps pupils to understand and respect the diverse religious and non-religious worldviews of modern Britain and beyond. Through R.E, pupils develop curiosity, empathy and respect, while being supported to reflect on their own beliefs and values.
Our R.E curriculum follows the Staffordshire Agreed Syllabus and is delivered through the Oak National Academy Primary R.E scheme, ensuring learning is well sequenced, progressive and inclusive. Pupils study Christianity in every key stage, alongside other principal world religions such as Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Sikhism, as well as non-religious worldviews.
R.E is taught from EYFS to Year 6, beginning with familiar experiences and progressing to structured enquiry into beliefs, practices and values. Lessons are discussion-based and enquiry-led, encouraging pupils to ask questions, make connections and recognise similarities and differences between worldviews.
Learning is accessible to all pupils through adaptive teaching and appropriate support. Key vocabulary and concepts are regularly revisited to help pupils build secure understanding over time. Where possible, learning is enriched through visits and visitors.
As a result, pupils leave Cooper Perry with a respectful understanding of religion and belief, the confidence to express their own views thoughtfully, and the skills needed to engage positively with diversity in the wider world.
