History at Cooper Perry
At Cooper Perry, we believe that our well-planned and carefully sequenced History curriculum enables children to develop a secure understanding of their past, the history of our local area, the story of our country and the wider world. As children progress through school, their knowledge builds step by step, supported by rich English texts and our school values, which help them make meaningful connections across the wider curriculum.
Our History curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and encourage children to ask thoughtful questions about the past. We provide many opportunities for pupils to think critically, form their own opinions and develop a personal historical perspective.
We aim to help children make sense of the world they live in by exploring the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, diversity within societies and the relationships between different groups. Key concepts—such as chronology, significance and similarity and difference—run throughout our curriculum to support deep and secure understanding.
We believe that history should be active, engaging and memorable. Real-life experiences, including visitors, trips and hands-on learning, form a fundamental part of our approach, bringing the past to life for every child.
