Design and Technology at Cooper Perry

At Cooper Perry, our Design and Technology curriculum develops pupils’ knowledge, understanding, and practical skills through the purposeful design and creation of prototypes. Pupils grow in design and technological capability by engaging with real-world problems in context-led units, applying creativity, critical thinking, and technical competence.

Throughout the curriculum, pupils evaluate their own work and the work of others, strengthening their ability to reflect, refine, and improve. They also explore how developments in design and technology influence social, moral, and ethical issues across the world.

Cooking and nutrition form a vital part of our Design and Technology provision. Pupils learn essential life skills that help them make informed, healthy food choices. They develop a secure understanding of where food comes from, how it is grown, reared, or processed, and how to prepare simple, nutritious dishes safely and hygienically. As they progress, pupils gain increasing independence in using equipment, combining ingredients, and adapting recipes, fostering confidence and enjoyment in cooking.

Through this approach, pupils become responsible designers, informed citizens, and thoughtful consumers—equipped to contribute positively to an ever-changing technological society.
