Art at Cooper Perry

At Cooper Perry, we believe that a carefully planned and well-sequenced Art curriculum enables children to develop secure knowledge, skills and understanding of a wide range of artistic techniques, as well as familiarity with a diverse range of artists. Our curriculum is designed in line with the National Curriculum and supported by Oak National Academy, ensuring that children build knowledge and skills progressively as they move through the school. Each year group focuses on a specific set of skills which are mastered and then further developed throughout Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Through our Art curriculum, we aim to inspire pupils’ enthusiasm and curiosity about art. Children are given opportunities to ask questions, practise a wide variety of techniques and form their own opinions about a diverse selection of artists and artwork.

We intend for our pupils to experience art in meaningful, real-life contexts, learning in an active, reflective and creative way. Visits and whole-school art projects form a fundamental part of our curriculum, enriching children’s experiences and broadening their understanding of art. We also offer an extra-curricular art club, led by a professional artist, allowing children to further develop their interests and creativity beyond the classroom.
