In order to do this, you will need to plan and carry out a fair test to decide which is the best material to make your ear defenders from.

To do this, you may want to find a sound source in your house (alarm clock, radio, phone etc) and select a range of household materials (paper, foil, cling film, toilet tissue, cotton material etc) and test to see how well they muffle the sound.

• Record your results in a table
• Create a design for your ear defenders
• Write an explanation text, justifying why you chose the materials you did.
