Year 5

Thank you and Goodbye...

A message of positivity, hope and love from my wonderful Year 5 team! I miss you all every day!

From us, to you...we miss you all so very much!

Dear families,

In this time of uncertainty, please rest assured that your children’s learning is still at the heart of all we do. Whilst we spend this time at home, I will be uploading reading, writing, maths, science and topic tasks on a regular basis.

Each week, I will upload –

  • A weekly writing task - this will take the same form as we typically follow in class, where the children write a paragraph or 2 each day. These paragraphs then build up and contribute to a larger piece of writing over the course of the week. In the front of your child’s book, there is a writing checklist and the children will be used to structuring their writing around the use of these objectives.
  • A sequence of math’s lessons – I will upload a warm up activity (typically an arithmetic style task) and then a follow up task that builds upon prior learning.
  • A weekly reading task – this will include a text with a range of follow up questions.
  • Alternating science and topic projects

Earlier this week, the children came home with a home learning exercise book – I would appreciate it if you could encourage the children to use this to record their learning in all subjects.

Please also find a ‘useful websites’ link below. In here, there are links to websites the children are used to accessing (e.g. Times Table Rockstar, online thesaurus and maths games). I have also shared links to websites that give detailed explanations of the SPAG and maths terminology set out in the Year 5 curriculum.

Please know that although we are not together, I am still here to help, support and guide the children in any way I can. If you have any questions, concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at: hfletcher@cooperperry.staffs.sch.uk

Furthermore, in this time of distance and isolation, it would be fantastic to stay connected. I would love to hear from you and your children – please let me know how they’re getting on, share their work with me and send photos of how you’re spending your time at home.

Finally, to each and ever member of the year 5 family, I want you to know how much I will miss teaching you every day. You are all incredible and I know that in the absence that faces us, you will continue to flourish.

I hope to be back with you all soon.

Please take care.

Miss H Fletcher
