I hope you have all had a wonderful summer with those you love. The children have settled back into school life, they have grown up a lot since the end of reception!

· Miss Harper – Class teacher

· Mrs Squires – Teaching Assistant (Every morning)

· Mr Smart – PGCE Student (Every day till end of November)

· Mrs Smith – (PPA cover on Thursday afternoons)

Independence We strongly encourage all children to be independent and take care of their own belongings, for example reading bags, homework, uniform, PE kits, water bottles etc..

At the end of Year 1 staff put your child’s next reading book in their reading bag ready for the beginning of Year 2. The children have a new reading diary please take out the old one. When your child has read their book a few times and it needs to be changed the children have been told to put it in the red box in the classroom. The year 2 curriculum has a big focus on comprehension skills not just the ability to read the text. Please ensure that your child understands what they have read and is able to make predictions and answer questions linked to the text before getting it changed. That may mean that your child has a book for a few days. During year 2 your child may progress onto accelerated reader which I will inform you in more detail at the time.

PE will take place on Wednesdays (taught by Miss Harper) and Thursdays (taught by Mr Allman from Sports Plus). PE kits need to be in school at all times in case of last minute lesson changes. After Easter swimming lesson will also take place; a letter will follow nearer the time.

Homework and Spellings

Homework and spellings will be set on Fridays. Homework is to be returned by Wednesday and spelling tests will be on Fridays.

Water Bottles

All children need to bring a named water bottle to school everyday.

As you can appreciate the beginning of the day is a very busy time in school, if you need to speak to a member of the team then you can email, ring the office to make an appointment to see us or write a note for your child to pass on to us.

I look forward to working with yourselves and your children once again.

Kind Regards

Miss Harper
