Term 3 in Year 6:
Dear famillies and children of y6,
what an amazing Easter break we had; gorgeous weather and a chance to recharge our batteries. The children have returned buzzing and excited about their last term at Cooper Perry. We have so much to do and we aim to make this a fun time and an opportunity to prepare for high school.
We are busy working through SATs papers and starting a topic on Staffordshire post 1945.
Our D&T topic will focus on sweets and chocolate - we will all deserve a little treat after SATs.
During maths lessons we will be supported by Mrs K JOnes to really enable us to fine tune our learning.
I will send a letter closer to the time regarding SATs but the timetable has been on the newsletter for a few weeks already.
We have chatted about nerves and your child may bring in gum to help calm them over the next few weeks, however, it's to be kept in lockers and to be disposed of sensibly. ( It's been proven psychologically this helps, the choice, as always, is yours)
Please feel free to email me or phone and I'll get back to you asap.
Science in y6:
research sites to help you to develop your evolution and inheritance knowledge:
Dear Parents, Guardians and pupils of Y6,
We're back! Welcome to term 2, 2015
Our topic this term is The British Empire 1714-1837, a time of exploration, trade and religious freedom. Moving onto the early Victorians too. We will be answering questions and continuing on our journey to explore our world in a historical and geographical context.
In maths we will start to refine our studies; what do we want to practise , what do we need to learn? We will work in small groups to refine our learning.
In science we will visit the plant and animal kingdoms and look at individual characteristics and then use classification to establish commonalities. We will produce keys to help with identification.
In writing we will continue to develop individual skills to further develop our writing across all the genres. As a school we will write a pantomime - from nursery to y6- an exciting project (watch this space for photo and video evidence)
In PE we will learn strategies for ball skills and also develop our orienteering experiences.
We would like to welcome Ms Wheat to Y5 & 6 she will be teaching alongside current staff.
This is an important term as it's the final term before SATs, we will continue with assessments to give the children as much experience to support them as is possible. We will continue to share levels with them and you. We would ask you to support your child by making sure homework is completed ; please mail me or pop in or ring for an appointment if you have any questions
The next document will show you what our term will look like.
Once again, Happyu new Year. Best wishes,
The Y6 team
welcome back after half term.
We've started our new science topic: 'light' and managed to do some shadow experiments whilst it was still sunny!
Spellings: the children have been undergoing a massive spelling test so that we can assess their precise level and needs, as soon as we've finsihed tailor made spelling work will be heading home. (Thanks for your support)
D&T week 10-15th for y6, CAMS is our topic, lots of measuring, accuracy, designing and making and the use of saws!
Homework is given regularly and can be checked up on our newsletter, just in case anyone has forgotten.
History: The Shang Dynasty- delving into historical China.
PE. - outside as often as weather allows, or inside for theory work and gymnsatics.
You know where I am if you need to chat,
Here's to a fun packed term,
Mrs. V and the team
ps apologies for those who had to go and buy protractors for last week's maths homework
it is so important to read widely and regularly, not just in school. You can read books, blogs, newspapers, brochures, comics, magazines, in fact the list goes on and on.
