Welcome to Year 5! I hope that you have all had a fantastic summer and are looking forward to the term ahead!
Our first topic that we are covering in Year 5 is Ancient Greece and will be our topic until the end of the term. This is a really great topic which both the children and I are already excited about. The topic will provide lots of fantastic writing opportunities, whilst allowing the children to develop their historical understanding.
To find out what other exciting things we will be learning about in year five please see the ‘Hexagon’ on our class page which provides an overview of the term.
P.E. lessons this term will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, however we encourage children to keep their kit in school all week to ensure that they have it when needed. As a lot of our lessons will be outdoors please ensure that children have suitable trainers, tracksuit bottoms and a jumper for the colder months!
Weekly spelling words will be tested every Friday morning. There will be 10 spellings to learn each week which are taken from the National Curriculum age related spellings. Mental maths tests will also be completed every Friday and the children will then be given their test back, along with the answers to take home and look through with an adult. Your child will have times tables to learn on a weekly basis which will be tested during maths on a Tuesday. Any additional weekly homework will be put on either the class page or the school newsletter.
