I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the families and parents that have supported the High Five Netball team! Not only those who were there supporting the girls during the matches yesterday but to those that have encouraged the girls to attend the after school sessions as well! A big thanks to all of you.

Symmetry Greek Vases - Art in Year 5

Symmetry Greek Vases - Art in Year 5 1

Dear Families

Welcome to Year 5, I hope that you have all had a lovely summer! Our first topic that we are covering in Year 5 is Ancient Greece; a variety of fun and engaging activities will be used to enhance the children’s historical understanding and writing skills. This topic will run up until the Christmas break!

A number of aspects will be covered in Numeracy during the first term; starting with place value, written methods and then moving onto working with 2D and 3D shape. Science will include two topics this term, ‘Earth and Space’ and ‘Forces’. Investigations and practical activities will be incorporated into lessons as much as possible allowing the children to learn scientific skills as well as the scientific knowledge.

In Physical Education a variety of Invasion Games will be covered along with Gymnastics and Dance. To maximise the children’s development lessons will be held outdoors where possible. Therefore, suitable trainers, tracksuit bottoms and an over jumper are required. P.E. lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, however it is encouraged that your child’s P.E. kit stays in school throughout the week to ensure it is available when needed.

North and South America will be the focus for Geography, including a comparative study. This term Art will have a strong link to the topic (Ancient Greece), with a main focus on Greek pottery.

As you are aware the children will have access to the Year 5 and 6 changing rooms this year. I know you have been told this time and time again but just as a reminder, please ensure all clothing is labelled.

I am very excited for this term, I am sure the children are too! If you have any questions or queries don’t hesitate to contact me, at the end of the school day at the door or via email (aharrison@cooperperry.staffs.sch.uk).

Many Thanks

Miss Harrison
