Summer Term

Welcome back year 3, we hope you have all had a super half term break and are feeling refreshed and ready to continue with your learning.

On Monday we held our Roman day, Mr Fox came to teach us about Roman battles, how to make shields, light fires and to answer questions about the Romans. All of the children had a wonderful time, the costumes were amazing, thank you for all your hard work getting these together. During the afternoon the children made clay lanterns in the style of Roman oil lamps, these will be painted and varnished next week. The lanterns are very creative and the children used their knowledge of the Romans to decorate them.

This week the children have continued with the Roman topic in history and literacy, writing about Julius Caesar's attempts to conquer Britain.

Home work this week is as follows:

Spellings

Mental maths

Times tables (concentrating on 4 and 8)

Arithmetic questions

Comprehension book page 20

Please ensure that homework is in school by Friday.

Just a quick reminder about the first day back. The children can dress in a Roman themed costume and bring other clothes if they wish. We will be spending the morning with a Roman experience visitor, learning more about Roman life and re-enacting a battle.

During the afternoon we will be taking part in various Roman related craft activities.

This is a great opportunity for the children to further enhance their learning and I know they are really looking forward to the day.

I would like to thank you for your continued support

Just a reminder that homework needs to be back by Friday each week as we mark them together.

It is important that all children complete their homework.

We would like to welcome all of the children back to school after the Easter holiday. This week we have been learning about The Romans in history, the children have really enjoyed the new topic. Thank you for sending in the wonderful shields, the classroom looks great with them on display.

We are continuing to work on times tables this term, it is a vital part of the children's maths skills and it is really important that they spend time learning them at home as well as at school.

Our science topic this half term is plants, we will be planting seeds, monitoring growth and learning about the different parts of plants, how they grow etc.

We will be having PE lessons indoors and outside this term so the children will need to have their PE kits in school on a Monday every week. It is not always possible for children to borrow kit if they forget theirs so please remind them to bring it to school.

Mrs Moore
