Our Orkambi Mission 1

Dear families,

Welcome to our third (and final) term of Year 5 – where has that year gone? I hope you have all had an enjoyable and restful Easter break, and that you are feeling as excited as we are to begin a new term.

As you may have already spotted, Harry Potter mania has already started to take over year 5. Yes it is the term we have all been eagerly waiting for! Of course, we are already officially on countdown for our epic trip to Harry Potter World (Tuesday 11th June). Throughout this term, we will read Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, this will become the focus for all of our guided reading sessions, but it will also inspire our writing and art.  In Science, we will be continuing our learning about Forces and Magnets before moving on to learning about Living Things (including plants, animals and humans). Mountains and Volcanoes will be our focus in Geography, and we will study the famous volcanic eruption in Pompeii. Mr Wright, our PE specialist, will continue to teach PE on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon, and this term he will be focusing on rounders, cricket and athletics. As before, Mrs Georgiou will continue to teach Modern Foreign Languages, RE and Art on alternate Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

I would like to say a huge thank you for your support in last term’s reading challenge – it was a huge success! I was truly blown away by the dedication, commitment and determination displayed by all of the children – the buzz around reading was electric in class. So, in order to keep that buzz alive, this week we will be launching a new reading challenge where the children have selected their own word count targets – look out for their Potter themed bookmarks.

As always, if you ever have any questions, queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can see me at the end of the school day, contact me via telephone or email me at hfletcher@cooperperry.staffs.sch.uk

I very much look forward to working with you again this term,

Harriett Fletcher
