I hope you had a wonderful Easter break and have been enjoying the sunshine. I cannot believe we are approaching our final term, where has the time gone?
The year 2 team are extremely excited to return to school and begin our journey on our new topic. During this term we will focus our learning around Space, in particular we will learn about Tim Peake’s adventure and this will inspire our writing. As the term progresses Space will also be the focus of our science and art learning; we will also extend our understanding and excitement with a space themed trip (details to be confirmed). The children will be experimenting with plant growth during science lessons and considering what a plant needs to grow successfully. In PE lessons we will be practising our Maypole skills in preparation for our performance on Friday 12th May. Following on from this we will be focusing on athletics and striking and fielding games, therefore PE will be held outside when possible.
Mrs James will continue to teach RE and Music on a Tuesday afternoon and Mrs Allpress will now teach art on a Friday afternoon. We are also joined by Miss Andrews, an associate teacher. She will be working very closely with the year 2 team and will begin to deliver some very exciting lessons.
Over the next few weeks the children will have the opportunity to show off their learning in their KS1 SATs. These will take place over a two-week period (15th May – 25th May). They will be spread out and the children will be unaware of these tests, instead we explain that we are showing off our amazing learning. The children have worked so extremely hard all year and we are all incredibly proud of them. If you have any questions or concerns about SAT’s please do not hesitate to contact me.
