Spring Term

Families, we are now covering Hockey in our P.E. lessons and therefore we will be heading outside. Please send your child with warm clothing and sensible trainers. Also I would like to ask if your child has shin pads at home can you please send them in for the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for your continued support

Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas. I would like to thank you for your thoughtful gifts and Christmas wishes on behalf of the Year 5 team. Before the Christmas break we completed our second D.T. project (Christmas felt decorations) and I am sure you were very impressed with the children’s textile skills and the effort that they put into your Christmas present! Some were worried they wouldn’t match the Christmas tree theme.

This term is a very exciting one. Our topic is the British Civil War, which will be integrated into a number of subjects across the curriculum. I have been very impressed with the woodland photographs that I have received over Christmas, thank you for your ongoing support. Last term, we began our new Science topic – Forces. We will be continuing with this before moving onto Living Things and their Habitats.

In P.E. we will be taking our lessons inside, beginning with Dance and then Gymnastics. However, it is also useful to have an outdoor kit in school (tracksuit bottoms, supportive trainers and a warm jumper), especially as we have created a number of unique games that we are very excited to play outside.

Homework will continue to be set on a weekly and overnight basis. Mental Maths revision, spellings and times tables will continue to be set on a weekly basis. Please can you also continue to read with your child at home.

Please keep in touch if you have any questions or concerns, you can email me on aharrison@cooperperry.staffs.sch.uk.

Many Thanks
