ARTS WEEK - The Best of British
We have had a great Arts Week in Year 1! We focused our literacy work around the author Judith Kerr. The children enjoyed finding out about Judith and listening to many of her stories before writing their own stories linked to 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'.
Lowry was the artist we focused on for the week. We looked at images of his work and then drew people in his style. We created the London Eye and The Angel of the North for a joint display with Year 2 which was great fun.
The children had a dance session where they listened to the music 'Neptune' by Gustav Holst and created their own body movements both individually and in groups.
A wonderful week Year 1, well done.
Well done to all of our Year 1 children for a super assembly to start off our Open Morning!
Thank you to all the family members that came to join us for the morning. It was great to see so many of you and we hope you enjoyed being involved in the children's learning.
Week ending 13/1/17
This week Year 1 have been involved with activities relating to The Snow Queen. They have written about the characters, collaged their own mirror and created snowflakes. The children have drawn snowflakes using wax candles. A watery blue paint wash was brushed over which allowed the wax to show through brightly. The children had a great time doing this and we have created a display in our library area for all to see.
Next week we are off to the theatre on Tuesday to see The Snow Queen which we are all really excited about. Also, we have our Open Morning on Wednesday to show all the grown ups what we have been learning in Year 1 so far this academic year. Our assembly starts at 9.30am.
Happy New Year to you all! We hope you had a great Christmas and would like to thank you for the lovely Christmas wishes and gifts we received.
The children have settled back well this week and we have began our mini topic on 'The Snow Queen'. We have focused on snow and written poems before moving on to thinking about the story.
In Science the children will be thinking about Plants and Animals and 'Our local area' will be the focus in our Geography sessions. Later in the term the children will be begin looking at 'Toys' in History.
We would like to remind you of our Open Morning on Wednesday 18th January. There will be our class assembly, chance for you to join the children in the classroom and then lunch with your child. More information will follow shortly.
