Spring

Dear families,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and are as eager as we are to begin the New Year. On behalf of the Year 5 team, I would like to thank you for the generous Christmas cards, wishes and gifts you sent in at the end of last term - they were very much appreciated.

It has been a pleasure welcoming the children back and hearing all about their Christmas holidays. Already, it is clear to see that they are eager to start the New Year and new term with enthusiasm, determination and motivation.

This term, Ancient Greece will become our class focus .
Throughout the term, we will use our history topic to enhance and inspire our learning in other areas such as writing and art. Much to the children’s delight, we have already begun reading our new class text ‘Who Let the Gods Out?’, and this will be our focus for all guided reading sessions across the next term. In science, we are currently learning about the Solar System and, after half term, Movement, Forces and Magnets will become our new topic. In PE, we are moving indoors for our Gymnastics and Dance units. Therefore please could you ensure your child has the appropriate PE kit for these sports (shorts or sports leggings / tracksuit bottoms is they prefer, with their PE top). However if your child is attending an afterschool sports clubs, which requires the outdoor area, please send them with warm clothing (tracksuit bottoms/sweatshirts/hats and gloves if appropriate).

Similar to last term, Mrs Georgiou will teach the children every Thursday morning between 10:30 and 12:30, and she will teach Religious Education and Modern Foreign Languages. Miss Nichols, our Associate Teacher, will continue to work alongside Miss Fletcher until mid-February.

This term, a huge emphasis is being put on reading in Years 5 and 6. As I am sure the children have already told you, they have been issued with an individual reading challenge as well and an inter-class competition. I would very much appreciate it if you could continue to support your child to read as frequently as possible at home. Once they have finished their book, I will ensure that they complete an appropriate Accelerated Reader quiz at school.

As always, my door is always open, and I am always available for a chat. If you have any questions, queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me; my email address is: hfletcher@cooperperry.staffs.sch.uk

Kind Regards,

Harriett Fletcher
