WE WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
In this last week of term we have enjoyed 'treat day', a variety of Christmas themed activities and had great fun at our Christmas Party. It has been a great conclusion to a wonderful first term in Year 1!
We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas time with your family and friends and look forward to seeing you next term.

What a fun time we have had this week designing and making biscuits as part of our D & T week!
We enjoyed looking at the ingredients that were needed and writing the instructions. We used our maths skills when weighing out the ingredients and thought about our individual designs carefully. There was a wonderful smell when the biscuits were baking in the oven and we all felt very hungry!
So much care and attention was given to the decorating of our biscuits and we are sure you agree that they look fabulous! The children enjoyed tasting their biscuits and even made extra ones to sell at the school Christmas Fayre!
We have had a great week of experiments involving Water. Firstly, we identified what water is used for, before moving on to a very exciting jelly experiment!. The children made 3 jellies; one with not enough water added, another with the correct amount added and the third with too much water added. We wanted to find out if the correct amount of water was needed to make the best jelly. Ask your child what we found out!!
'Can I make my figure float?' was our next experiment. The children used a variety of materials to answer this question and had huge fun in the process!
We finished our investigations off with an ice activity. We had to predict where the ice would melt the quickest and then record our results.
This week has been D&T week throughout the school. Year 1 have been busily creating a Castle moving picture. The children have used a range of materials and demonstrated a range of joining techniques. They really enjoyed using split pins, creating hinges and sliding parts to make movement on their picture. Some great creations were produced.
We feel the children have managed the transition from Reception to Year 1 really well and that together we have had a good first half term. Well done to you all .
We hope you all have a great half term break and will see you on Tuesday 1st November.

We also had a visit from a Fire Engine. The Fire Fighters spoke to the children about fire safety and showed the equipment they use in their daily role.
Week ending 24/9/16
We have had a super busy week in Year 1! The children have been looking at addition in Maths, forming super sentences in Literacy and learning about King Henry viii in History. We have also had time for creating sculptures in Art and some gymnastics and dance in our P.E. sessions.
The children are settling well into the more formal timetable of Key Stage 1 and have began to develop their independence and concentration skills, well done to you all!
