Year 2

Geography Project

I would like the children to compare and contrast a small area of the United Kingdom and of a non-European country.

They will need to look at physical and human features of both places, for example –

·       Weather

·       Mountain ranges

·       Rivers

·       Land (city, rural, desert, jungle etc)

·       Tourism

·       Population

·       Way of life

·       Traditions

The children can present their work whichever way they prefer – poster, booklet, information text, Powerpoint or any other ideas.
Be as creative as you like.

I can’t wait to see them.

Hello families,

Welcome back to school after such a lovely, long summer break. I hope you all had a fun filled summer and are excited and ready for the year ahead.

Both the children I are extremely excited to be learning about the Great Fire of London this term, this will be our history-based topic and will also inspire lots of creative writing and wonderful art. In science we will be exploring and investigating the properties of materials and their uses. This year we are extremely lucky to have Mrs James teaching both music and R.E every Thursday afternoon. If you wish to know more about what we are learning about in year 2, please take a look at the Medium Term Planning Hexagons on the class page.

Please could all children ensure they have their reading folder in school every day. If their book needs changing children need to place their bag in the box – diaries will not be checked every day, similarly if there is a message in their diaries please remind them to make an adult aware. Diaries will be checked every Friday by either Mrs Squires or Mrs Davies.

New spelling words are given to the children weekly and they are tested each Friday morning. There will be 10 spellings to learn each week, these will be taken from the National Curriculum age related spellings, the common exception words and/or in relation to the spelling rules we are learning in class.  Spellings will be stapled into the children’s homework diaries, along with their score from the previous test. Mental math’s tests also occur every Friday and the completed test, along with the questions, will be sent home for you to review together

Look out for weekly homework on the class page or school newsletter beginning next week. Weekly homework will include spellings, a review of the mental maths test, math’s homework as well as any occasional topic related homework.

PE will be on a Tuesday and Thursday so please ensure children have their kits, suitable for both indoor and outdoor PE, in school.

Also, all children are welcome to have a water bottle in the classroom, which can be re-filled at any time from a water cooler in the shared area.

If you have any questions, queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me; my email address is: hfletcher@cooperperry.staffs.sch.uk

King regards
