We had lots of fun outside, looking for signs of autumn and collecting leaves. We then wrote autumn poems and painted pictures of trees.

Hello families

Welcome back :) I hope you have all had a lovely summer and are looking forward to the year ahead.

We have had a fantastic start to the term and the children have settled into year one really well. They are working very hard and are showing a lot of enthusiasm in the classroom.

As the children are now in year one, the school day becomes more structured than in reception, working to a more formal timetable. Our first topic this year is Kings, Queens and Castles and in Science we will be learning about materials. On a Wednesday afternoon, we are lucky to have Mrs Smith and Miss Grattage with us. Mrs Smith will be teaching music and Miss Grattage will be teaching RE and Citizenship. To find out more about what we will be covering in year one, please see the Medium Term Planning Hexagon.

Please could you ensure that children bring their reading book and diary into school every day. Please record in your child’s diary when they have read and when their book is ready to be changed. Next week (15th Sept) we will start sending spellings home for the children to learn as part of their homework each week. Spellings will then be tested every Friday and new spellings will be sent home. Generally, other homework will be set on a Friday and will be due in the following Tuesday.

Our PE lessons this year will be on a Tuesday and Thursday, however please ensure PE kits are in school all week, as there may occasionally be a change to the timetable. Please also ensure that children bring a water bottle to school every day, which they are able to refill in the classroom.

Please check the weekly newsletter and the class page on the website for updates and notices. If you have any queries or concerns, then please do not hesitate to contact me. My email address is
